Boutique Hotel Restaurant, Edinburgh

Food and atmosphere photography for a new menu

This project was all about helping a boutique hotel in Edinburgh present their new menu and the atmosphere of their restaurant. The goal wasn’t just to show the food. It was to capture the full dining experience. The space, the lighting, the mood, the moments that make guests want to book a table.

To keep everything natural, I planned the shoot around the time of day. Kitchen service in the best available light, dining areas with a warm and inviting feel. We brought in models to play the role of real guests, so every scene had an authentic, lived-in energy. No stiff posing, just natural interactions and honest moments.

We created a series of scenes. A date night, a romantic dinner, a relaxed business lunch, and a cocktail break at the bar. Each one with its own lighting, tone and atmosphere, designed to reflect the variety of experiences the restaurant offers.

What I covered. Menu hero dishes and details for marketing, interior photography of the dining room and bar, textures and design elements, service moments with models, and soft ambient sequences that help hotels and restaurants build a strong visual identity online.

Deliverables. Between 35 and 50 edited images with consistent grading. Files prepared for web, social media and print. Previews delivered within 48 hours, full gallery ready in three to five working days.

Notes. Models were booked through an agency, so their fees were separate. Worth every penny though. Their presence made the images feel relaxed and believable, which is exactly what restaurants and boutique hotels in Edinburgh need when they want to attract new guests.

  • Yes, we do light styling with your kitchen so plates look natural and appetising. For big launches we can bring a stylist; otherwise we keep it efficient.

  • We control angles, use flags/scrims and a polariser where it helps. Goal: crisp highlights without harsh glare.

  • Yes. We plan short windows, work quietly and avoid recognisable guests without consent. For busy nights we focus on dishes and bar moves; wide ambience is often best before or after service.

  • Mostly natural light with subtle fill when it truly helps. We keep colour temperatures consistent so dishes look real.

  • Preview in 48 h; finals in 3–5 working days depending on scope. Rush 24–48 h available.

  • Your channels are included. Suppliers/brands can license per image or per project via a simple add-on.
